Vacation Bible School
June 22-26, 2020
RUMC 2020 Vacation Bible School
Details will follow soon.
The RUMC Vacation Bible School is open to all children ages 3 to fifth grade. It is run by a very dedicated group of volunteers who pack a great deal of fun and learning experiences into one week. The children (preschool to third grade) enjoy age appropriate science experiments, craft projects, bible stories, outdoor games, and music. The fourth and fifth grade kids go out into the world (supervised) to explore local mission opportunities—helping out at a local farm, assisting at a local preschool, cleaning up a local community area—the VBS director finds new rewarding ways the kids can contribute to the community every year. The fourth and fifth graders keep a journal throughout the week. We share their experiences in the bulletin for the VBS family night.
The theme of this year’s Vacation Bible School is “Rolling River Rampage.” This week-long program is a community effort sponsored by Rockville United Methodist Church. Vacation Bible School (VBS) includes Bible lessons, recreation, crafts, storytelling, science, and music.
There is a limited space for enrollment so please enroll as soon as possible. Registration will close on June 14, 2019. There are always funds available for children whose families have limited funds. Your child’s Christian education starts with the family and we welcome parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and youth in grade 6 or older to volunteer.* All are welcome to our program, and we look forward to meeting you! Please return one (1) form per family to Rockville United Methodist Church, with a check made payable to RUMC.
God Bless You,
Director: Linda Shivers
Co-Director: Don Corne
*If you have not volunteered before we will ask you to fill out a volunteer form and references.
2018 Shipwrecked – Rescued by Jesus
Our Castaways worked hard all week to repair the sail of their ship so they could get off the island. Every good deed or “God Sighting” provided another patch for the sail. Working together the Castaways accomplished their goal.

Our Shipwrecked Pirates went into the world to help others this week. Each day they went to different places and had different experiences. They helped out at Fox Hill, Auer Farm, the Rockville YMCA, and the Hockanum Valley Food Pantry. These Pirates worked very hard and worked close to noon each day, but they still found time to record their thoughts in journals while eating their end-of-the-day snacks. The exclusive Pirate pool party was on Friday.
Here is a sample of the 2018 Pirates’ journals.
2017 Hero Central – Discover Your Strength in God!
Our Strength Heroes (4th and 5th graders) went into the world to help others this week. Each day then went to a different place so they encountered different experiences. They helped out at Hockanum Valley Food Pantry, Rockville YMCA, Vernon Manor, and Auer Farm. The Strength Heroes had a pool party on Friday to celebrate all the good they did this week.
The kids worked very hard; they returned close to noon each day. Our Strength Heroes recorded their thoughts in journals while they had their end-of-the-day snacks.
