We collected $9728 at our 2019 Good Friday Walk; $4,744 was donated to Sharing Inc., $4,984 went to The Cornerstone Foundation.
This year 50% of the money collected will stay local: 50% to Sharing, Inc. and 50% to Cornerstone Foundation.

Who: Anyone can participated. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Registration: Registration starts at 7 am. Each participant must collect a minimum of $20. The walk begins at 7:30 am.

The Good Friday Walk is a fundraiser for local and nationwide charities. With a minimum pledge of $20 anyone can attempt the 20 mile walk for charity.
Over 30 churches and organizations participate with workers volunteering their time and energy to make the walk successful for over 100 walkers. There are ten stops along the route where restrooms, first aid, or snacks may be available. Transportation is available for those who can’t finish the entire twenty miles.
Half of the money collected goes to Sharing, Inc. Sharing, Inc focuses on rural poverty in the southern states. The majority of grants in recent years have been sharply focused on the needs of children—supporting gifted, committed, caring groups who are making a difference in the lives of children who suffer the dual oppressors of poverty and racism. http://www.walkingongoodfriday.org/
Half of our money raised stays local going to the Cornerstone Foundation. Cornerstone Foundation started in 1982 with one woman’s desire to help our homeless neighbors. Today Cornerstone is a multifaceted organization providing food, clothing, and shelter with services such as the overnight shelter, clothing bank, food pantry, soup kitchen and the youth community center. Details for Walkers:
The Good Friday Walk begins and ends at the Rockville United Methodist Church, 142 Grove Street, Rockville, CT. 860 875-6562. There are 10 stops throughout the walk where you may find water, first aid, restrooms, or snacks. A lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is served at the halfway point at Windsorville United Methodist Church. Transportation is available at all of the stops throughout the route for anyone who can’t finish the walk.
All participants must fill out and sign the sponsor sheet. Children under 18 years old must have a parent’s signature. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Each participant must collect a minimum of $20.
History of the Good Friday Walk:
“In January 1972, Kay Doherty, one New England woman, learned that the North Bolivar County Farm Co-op in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, was about to collapse due to federal budget cutbacks. She sought help to organize a Walk to raise money for the Co-op. When none was forthcoming, she decided to walk on Good Friday herself, alone if necessary. From that day, Good Friday has become a day on which many Christians choose to walk as Jesus did. They are joined by people of other beliefs who walk in the shared conviction that we must respond with love and justice wherever God’s people cry out.”
The original Walk of 1972, incorporated as Sharing in 1975, remains focused on rural poverty in the southern states. The majority of grants in recent years have been sharply focused on the needs of children—supporting gifted, committed, caring groups who are making a difference in the lives of children who suffer the dual oppressions of poverty and racism. Rockville United Methodist Church was introduced to the Good Friday Walk in the early 80s by our new Pastor Dick Thompson. Pastor Thompson had participated in Good Friday walks at his previous church in Hingham, MA and thought his new congregation would be interested in joining what he believed to be a wonderful cause: raising money for persons in the deep south who needed help to help themselves. We first walked in Hingham, MA; then in Mystic, CT. Thirty years ago in l984, we decided to walk in Rockville. At first, 100% of the money raised went to Sharing, Inc. A few years ago we began giving 1/3 of the money raised to Rockville charities, a wonderful way to give to our own community.
