Pete Schilling presented an interesting devotion for the choir this week. He talked about the modern composers and hymn writers Bill and Gloria Gaither and told the story of writing the hymn “He Touched Me.” Bill wrote this hymn after he felt the hand of Jesus helping him come out of a depression. We have four of their hymns in our hymnal. Here is the first verse of “He Touched Me:”
“Shackled by a heavy burden, neath a load of guilt and shame,
then the hand of Jesus touched me and now I am no longer the same.
He touched me, O he touched me, and O the joy that floods my soul!
Something happened, and now I know, he touched me and made me whole.”
This has always been a touching and emotional hymn for me.
Thanks Stan.
Love the story. Love the hymn!
