Stan’s Corner, Monday, July 4
I have had to read some American History to explain the Declaration of Independence to Subhash Shah, a young man from India who has been coming to our church since September. One thing I was reminded of was that it took over a year after the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the Battle of Bunker Hill for the Colonists to finally decide to assert their independence from Great Britain. The Second Continental Congress voted for Independence in May of 1776 and appointed a committee composed of Thomas Jefferson and others to write this document. It was presented and debated beginning June 28 and finally approved on July 4.
